Basketball Backboards

Basketball backboards are one of the most common and necessary types of basketball equipment. It is very hard to play a game of basketball without a basketball backboard. Basketball backboards have evolved from the days of planks of wood behind the rim. Nowadays, basketball backboards come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, even shapes. Basketball backboards can be bought for reasonable prices and are not a piece of sporting equipment that is overly expensive. Most of the time, when basketball hoops are purchased, basketball backboards come with them.

A new basketball hoop back board can be found online or at a sporting goods store. Used basketball back boards can also be purchased, usually at lower prices, at flea markets, yard sales, or on ebay. Basketball backboards can be bought in a variety of colors or even glass like professional basketball goal backboards. Other materials are available as well such as acrylic basketball backboards and some kinds of adjustable basketball backboards. Even backboard designs are also made on some basketball backboards.

There are also certain brand name basketballs such as Huffy basketball backboards that are more popular with some consumers. However, whether you buy expensive basketball backboards or cheap basketball backboards, you will get a product that basically serves the same purpose. When you go to a store nowadays it is hard to believe that the original wooden basketball backboard has grown to include so many various designs. Of course, there are plenty of classic wooden backboards still out there, usually made from scratch at home. You will still find homemade basketball hoops found made of planks of wood and milk crates or peach baskets.

There are certain regulations that basketball backboards and basketball backboard rims must abide by. Backboards that are too big cannot be used. The dimensions of basketball backboards must be specific. Backboards must be under six feet wide and three and a half feet high. The diameter of the basketball backboard rims must be eighteen inches and the hoop must be ten feet off the ground. For basketball games that are played by young children, the basketball hoop is often lowered closer to the ground and elementary school basketball court dimensions may be different. However, ten feet is official regulation height. There are various basketball dimensions and measurements that must be followed for the game to be official. However, for home courts there is more leeway.
