NCAA Basketball Rankings
The NCAA Basketball Rankings
The NCAA Basketball Rankings are released at the beginning of each week after the teams have played their scheduled games. One particular ranking system is determined by sports writers throughout the country. The sports writers determine whether the team is the best by looking at the strength of schedule, the roster, any injuries incurred during the season, and, most importantly, if the team has lost any players due to injury or suspension. The ranking system is not perfect and often you will hear other sports writers or analysts criticize the rankings. More often than not this has to do with the strength of schedule. Some teams will do very well throughout the season but have not face tough competition due to their division. This could adversely affect their final standings and many sports writers and analysts often come to blows when deciding where these teams should be ranked. Coaches vote to determine who the best teams are in the other ranking system. They also take into account the same factors as the sports writers do, strength of schedule, any injuries or suspensions of players, the win-loss record, and the roster. The coaches poll is very often the same as the sports writers’ poll with respect to the top ten teams in the country. However, the lower the teams are ranked, the greater the differences are between the two.

These rankings are similar to the regular ranking systems that already exist. The criteria used to determine the overall strength of the team is the same. Important factors such as, strength of schedule, the win-loss record, injuries to players, and the roster are taken into account. The statistical method that utilizes all of this information is quite complex. Basically, each team is designated a number on the scale of 0 to 100 and the rankings are based on this number. The NCAA Women’s Basketball Rankings
The criteria to determine the women’s basketball rankings are the same as the men’s. The women’s rankings, much like the men’s, are available on many sports websites and are also published in many major newspapers across the country.
