Seattle Supersonics

Founded in 1967 the Seattle Super Sonics have the dubious distinction of all the current pro Seattle based teams of being the only one to have won a championship. Yet, while the Mariners and Seahawks have both added their own little special something to the realm of professional sports in Seattle, the Sonics have surged past them and have made a name for themselves in the one regard that matters most in competition.

As the Seattle Super Sonics have had a few owners over the course of their existence and have changed over very recently in 2006, their identity really has needed to come from within. While the green, gold, and white which have always been their colors have remained true, there is a great deal else internally which could be up in the air at any moment. The one detraction from having multiple owners is the possibility of any longer term deals such as location and staff being pulled out from under the team and voided when the new owner takes the helm. Fortunately for the team, they’ve been able to move beyond all that and just continue playing great basketball and the fans have recognized this and have stuck by the Seattle Super Sonics in all kinds of weather.

It was the 1979 Seattle Super Sonics team which won the championship but the current lineup seems poised to do great things at any potential moment. The 2007-2008 Super Sonics team has a number of marquee players which could boost the team up from their recent doldrums and position them to being ready to take conference or even go all the way to the championship.

But we’ll have to wait and see; as a wise man once said there is no predicting the future; especially in professional sports so as we wait and try to understand where the Seattle Super Sonics team is headed the only thing that we are able to do is view them for what they were, in part, but more so by what they are at this moment.
